World Hindi Day 2023, Why and How it is Celebrated

Get ready, Hindi lovers, January 10th is the day we celebrate one of the most widely spoken languages in the world – Hindi! That’s right, World Hindi Day is here and it’s time to break out the samosas and chai to celebrate the beauty and diversity of the language.

First officially celebrated in 2006 by the Indian Government, day was first celebrated in 2006 by the Indian government to mark the adoption of Hindi, written in the Devanagari script, as one of the official languages of India, along with English, by the Constituent Assembly on January 14th, 1950.

Vishwa Hindi Diwas was formed to mark the day when Hindi was first spoken in the UNGA in 1949.

World Hindi Day is a way to honor the contributions of Hindi to the world’s cultural and linguistic tapestry. This versatile language has over 600 million speakers worldwide and is the fourth most spoken language globally.

But have you ever wondered about the history of Hindi? This fascinating language can trace its roots back to the 10th century CE when it emerged from a dialect called “Apabhramsa” spoken in northern India.

Over time, Hindi has absorbed words and phrases from various languages such as Persian, Arabic, and English, making it the rich and diverse language it is today.

On this day, not only the Indian Government celebrates but also schools, colleges, universities, and cultural organizations join in the celebration by organizing lectures, debates, and competitions in Hindi.

But, World Hindi Day is not just about learning the language, it’s also about celebrating the literature and culture that comes with it. From Bollywood movies to traditional songs, Hindi has an array of cultural expressions that are worth exploring.

And let’s not forget the literary contributions of Hindi. From the works of legendary poets like Kabir, Mirabai, and Raskhan to Munshi Premchand, Hindi literature has something for everyone.

The language has produced some of the most profound and thought-provoking works of fiction, poetry, and non-fiction in the world.

World Hindi Day is a time to celebrate one of the world’s most widely spoken languages and to promote its use among people from different countries.

So, whether you’re a fluent Hindi speaker or just starting out, or someone who is just interested in this fascinating language, you can join in celebrating World Hindi Day and embrace the beauty and diversity of the language.
