Father of Yogi Adityanath Passed Away, CM Says He Will Not Attend Funeral Due To Lockdown

Father of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath passed away today. His father Anand Bisht was undergoing treatment at the gastroenterology department of AIIMS in New Delhi. He was admitted after his health deteriorated and his condition was critical.

His death came amid the lockdown imposed across India to contain the coronavirus outbreak in the country. The funeral possessions are highly restricted during the lockdown.

— Yogi Adityanath (@myogiadityanath) April 20, 2020

Yogi Adityanath stated that he heartily wanted to see the face of his father one last time, but due to the pandemic situation and the responsibility he has towards the people of UP he couldn’t do that.

He further added that he has appealed to his mother and relatives to follow the lockdown protocols, and he would visit his family once the lockdown ends. His father’s body is being taken to his village in Pauri district of Uttarakhand.

Condolences started pouring in on twitter

UP CM @myogiadityanath sends a powerful message to citizens of his state. Says won’t attend his father’s funeral as it would be a violation of the national lockdown. This can’t be an easy decision for any son. Condolences to Yogiji and the family. Om Shanti. 🙏

Some praised that he sent a powerful message to citizens of his state Uttar Pradesh by not attending his father’s funeral as it would be a violation of the national lockdown. Adding that this can’t be an easy decision for any son.

Only in times of unfavourable winds do men reveal their true character. Yogi Adityanath refused to go for his father’s funeral because for him duty came before family. Hats off.

I pray for the soul of his late father, Sri Anand Singh Bisht Ji 🙏. https://t.co/t8LZFPETKK

Despite getting the news, he continued with the meeting

Even as the news of his father’s demise reached, Adityanath is said to continue with a briefing with officials, where he directed them to ensure that the students of Uttar Pradesh who have returned from coaching hub Kota are quarantined at their homes.

Director for Information Shishir told PTI that a meeting of officials of the core group on COVID-19 was going on since 10 am. It was during this meeting that the chief minister got the message that his father has passed away, he said.

Despite getting the sad news, he continued with the meeting and got up only after giving necessary directions to the officials.

Even after getting the news of the passing away of his father, the chief minister went ahead with the meeting for almost 45 minutes. Shishir said.

The meeting was held at Adityanath’s office in the Lok Bhavan in Lucknow.
