WhatsApp Avatars Get a Musical Welcome with Diljit Dosanjh’s India Concert

Get ready for a musical celebration like no other! WhatsApp has teamed up with global music sensation from India, Diljit Dosanjh to mark the launch of avatars. These digital depictions of users allow them to customize and use their avatar as a profile picture or send it as a reaction sticker.

The party kicked off with a live concert in Mumbai, where Diljit debuted his own avatar in front of a packed crowd of over 10,000 excited fans.

It was the first concert in the world to feature WhatsApp avatars, making it a truly one-of-a-kind event.

WhatsApp did a ‘Say More with Avatars’ activation for Diljit’s fans during the concert. The fans had to create and send their own avatars to a WhatsApp number and 10 lucky participants got a chance to meet Diljit in a private meet & greet session at the concert. As part of the avatars on WhatsApp campaign, Diljit also created three videos highlighting how much fun he has had creating different avatars of himself on WhatsApp.

Commenting on the partnership with WhatsApp, Diljit Dosanjh said,” WhatsApp is how I stay connected with friends and family in India while I travel the world.”

“I send pictures, and videos of all my concerts and so much more through WhatsApp. I am personally excited about the launch of avatars because I love to express myself in many different ways as an artist and as a person and avatars help me do just that. It has democratized expressions for everyone.”

Avinash Pant, Director of Marketing, Meta India said, “Launching avatars on WhatsApp in India with Diljit Dosanjh is very special. Transcending cultures and genre, Diljit’s music epitomizes limitless self-expression, which is symbolic of what avatars on WhatsApp stand for.”

“Avatars enable personalized self-expression for everyone, giving people the freedom of representing themselves without sharing their real photos. Taking this integrated marketing campaign ahead, we will amplify avatars amongst users via OOH, on-ground activations, and digital platforms.”

It is believed to compete with Apple’s feature called Memoji, you can create a Memoji to match your personality and mood, then send it in Messages and FaceTime. And with a compatible iPhone, iPad Pro, and now Mac — you can create an animated Memoji that uses your voice and mirrors your facial expressions.

While, WhatsApp puts this feature as ‘We’re bringing avatars to WhatsApp so you can represent yourself with billions of combinations of hairstyles, facial features, and outfits.

Mark Zuckerberg announced this feature on the 7th of December 2022.

What is known about the feature on WhatsApp is that you can now use your personalized avatar as your profile photo or choose from one of 36 custom stickers reflecting many different emotions and actions.

Sending an avatar is a fast and fun way to share feelings with friends and family. It can also be a great way to represent yourself without using your real photo so it feels more private.
