Blinkit CEO Reveals Top Valentine’s Day Orders: Results are Certainly Interesting

While many of us lamented our single status yesterday, those in relationships celebrated Valentine’s Day with gifts and affection. Yet some of the orders were very interesting.

With instant deliveries now commonplace, individuals ordered numerous ‘lovey-dovey’ products for their partners. Blinkit CEO Albinder Dhindsa has some truly fascinating insights to share on this trend.

Blinkit, formerly known as Grofers, is an Indian instant delivery service founded in December 2013. Headquartered in Gurgaon, the company enables customers to order groceries and essentials online through its mobile application.

Its CEO Dhindsa took to ‘X’ to share insights from Valentine’s Day purchases, and here are some unique stats you might want to know.

1. Personal Massager sales just skyrocketed

2. V-Day saw some wild moments, and the unexpected surge in demand for ‘handcuffs’ certainly attests to that

3. Condom sales surged fourfold compared to an average Wednesday.

4. It may not come as a surprise, but people were incredibly romantic on V-Day as well.

We've already done highest..

– ever roses & bouquets delivered in a day
– ever chocolates delivered in a day
– OPM (Orders per minute)
– most teddies sold in a day

And it's just 6:10 PM. Pretty sure we'll end up hitting our highest ever orders in a day too (NYE 2023 is highest… pic.twitter.com/wGLOp2Bor2

5. There was a surge in beauty products as well

Looks like a lot of couples are going out today! Sales of beauty products compared to just last Wednesday (Rose day) are way higher.

Already sold 3.5X more lipsticks compared to a regular Wednesday 🤯 pic.twitter.com/wvQN3dlAfx

6. It was a heavily gift-driven day

Not sure if it's Valentine's today or teddy day!

We're selling more teddy bears and soft toys as compared to 10th Feb. Glad the team took a big enough bet on these for today too 😅 pic.twitter.com/hBw6aDwpSi

7. Someone went as far as offering to work as a delivery partner just for their girlfriend’s sake. Love truly knows no bounds.

India is clearly not for beginners 🤦‍♂️ https://t.co/JIqwpls2pN

8. In the end it was a great day of business, that it was also Basant Panchmi

Basant Panchmi + Valentine’s = Great day for business 😅

While today morning was all about sales of pooja essentials – the valentine’s sale has now picked up!

We’re already on track to sell more roses and chocolates we sold on rose day and chocolate day respectively 🙈

As we reflect on Valentine’s Day, the stark contrast between the solitary and the coupled emerges vividly. While some of us bemoaned our solo status, those in relationships reveled in the festivities of love, exchanging gifts and gestures of affection.
