UP: Angry Villagers Make MLA Walk On Waterlogged Street As He Ignored Their Plight For 4 Years

In a democracy, the elected representatives are expected to ensure that those who have voted for them are taken care of as far as civic amenities are concerned. There are always some who are voted to power but forget even their basic responsibilities towards the people.

There are various ways to hold these politicians accountable, one of the most commonly used is to vote them out of power but in Uttar Pradesh’s Hapur district, citizens made their elected representatives aware of their ground reality in a unique yet powerful way.

It all began when MLA Kamal Malik was visiting his constituency to woo voters for the upcoming UP assembly elections. Expecting a warm welcome the MLA tried to engage the voters from the village. The MLA had visited the village as part of his ‘Padh Yatra’ or travel on foot ahead of the election.

Surprisingly he began facing opposition from the villagers of his constituency. They claimed that ever since Mr. Malik was elected as the MLA from the constituency, he had never bothered to visit the village during his tenure of the last 4 years.

As per the report, people made the MLA walk on a water-logged stretch of the road for not taking care of the infrastructure all this while.

For the past three days, the villagers are forced to walk on the sewer water accumulated on the road as there is a problem of waterlogging due to drainage overflow resulting from poor roads and drainage systems.

The villagers made BJP MLA from Garhmukteshwar assembly seat of Hapur district of Uttar Pradesh walk in the sewer water accumulated on the road.

A person in the video is seen as walking the MLA through the waterlogged road while closing walking and sometimes holding his hand with gestures that look like pointing out the pathetic road condition to the MLA. The video of the incident has gone viral on social media.

One social media user wrote, “He was made to walk over coals before they declared OH OUR LEADER IS GREAT! Let’s vote for him!”

Another wrote, “Gimmicks to assuage a guilty conscience, they will still vote as they must.”

What is your thought about the act of the villagers’ making politicians aware of their plight in such a unique way? Tell us in the comments section.
