Is Ramayana real? Tribes From Ramayana Are The Living Proof

For Indians Ramayana and Mahabharata are not simply epics, these are their faith, culture, way of living and a narrative that governs their day to day life. Our current knowledge says it is not possible for these epics to be true however every now and then there are evidences that indeed tell you that these can’t be imaginary narratives as well. The current scientific study of tribes from Ramayana is changing the way historians have been seeing the epics as mythology and not history.

We have done a comprehensive analysis of whether Mahabharata is real history. The analysis does apply to Ramayana as well.

In a research carried out by anthropological scientists from the Estonian Biocentre and the University of Delhi claims that events of the mythological epic Ramayana occurred in reality thousands of years ago.

Continued Habitation In Indian Subcontinent For More Than 6000 Years

Furthermore researchers claim that populations in the Indian subcontinent can trace their ancestors to more than 60,000 years back. This in itself is a great discovery. Scientists say that this is proof of the authenticity and actual occurrence of the events described in Ramayana, which would have occurred more than 12,000 years ago. The Gonds, Kols and Bhils are believed to be the ancient tribal groups of the region and they have been mentioned in the Ramayana with the same name.

Dr Vadlamudi Raghavendra Rao, professor of anthropology, University of Delhi, and one of the authors of the study, said, “Definitely, the events described in Ramayana occurred in real. Our research has showed close genetic affinity of these tribes to other ethnic groups. We have shown that there is continuity in the populations groups living here. Other researchers are working to prove other angles of this.”

The study was carried out by Estonian Biocentre researcher Gyaneshwar Chaubey, Institute of Scientific Research on Vedas, Dr Saroj Bala and Dr Raghavendra Rao.

Why Do They Claim Ramayana Happened For Real

The research study says since these tribes are inhabitants of the country since the Stone Age, their genetic affinity to existing populations show the authenticity of the Ramayana.

Researchers also presented the finding that these tribal groups form a closed cluster with Dravidian groups, known as inhabitants of South India.

Does it Prove That Ramayana Actually Happened?

Actually it is both yes and no! It does prove that there is a strong possibility that events mentioned in Ramayana are real and there has been a continuous habitation in the Indian Subcontinent which many Indian historians have been claiming. However it does not prove that all that is mentioned in Ramayana or the Ramayana as we know today is real.
